Around Kittanning

Butch Kane, owner of Foodland/Kittanning, and Bernie Bowser, Jr., Mayor of West Kittanning and Assistant Manager of Foodland/Kittanning, provided MothmanLives.com with photos from the Foodland grocery store in Kittanning, PA. (That's Bernie in the picture below, with some of the MothmanLives.com shirts they sold in the store.)

Why is that significant in Mothman trivia?

Well, the Foodland parking lot became the staging area for the vehicles featured in the final bridge scene in the movie. In particular, these are the vehicles stuck in the line of traffic that Richard Gere's character has to run past to get to the bridge at the beginning of the final scene.

And also because Butch is a collector. . . and following the conclusion of the filming of The Mothman Prophecies, he purchased as many movie set props and pieces that he could afford -- when the filming had wrapped, the producers auctioned the props for charity. Once his collection was complete, he displayed it in his grocery store.

Butch and Bernie stayed in contact with Jeff Wamsley and local officials in Point Pleasant, and brought portions of the collection every year to the Mothman Festival.

After local interest in Kittanning died down, Butch graciously donated his entire collection of Mothman movie props in late 2005 to the Mothman Museum and the City of Point Pleasant, where it resides today.

The staff of both the Mothman Museum and MothmanLives.com are eternally grateful for the generosity of Butch, and now his collection is on permanent display in Mothman's home, Point Pleasant.

Bernie also provided a postcard for the town of Kittanning. Click on the thumbnail image above to see a LARGE photo of the town!
